اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ وَهَمْزِهِ وَنَفْخِهِ وَنَفْثِهِ
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Satan, from his madness, his arrogance, and his poetry.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minash-shaytanir-rajeem wa hamzihi wa nafkhhi wa nafsih
When to Read
Recite this dua as soon as you feel the stirrings of anger, especially in a major crisis where composure is crucial. It's a proactive step to ward off Satan's whispers that often fuel rage and cause us to lose control.
How to Read
This dua is best recited when feeling the initial heat of anger. Try to pause, take a deep breath, and sincerely seek refuge in Allah. If possible, also try to change your physical state, like moving from where you were standing to sitting, or even lying down if the situation allows, as recommended by the Prophet ﷺ in another hadith regarding anger.
Virtues & Benefits
Anger is a fire that Satan ignites. Seeking refuge in Allah from Satan's influence directly combats the source of this agitation. By reciting this, we acknowledge our weakness and rely on Allah's power to protect us from the destructive consequences of uncontrolled anger, helping us maintain our faculties to make sound decisions even in the midst of a crisis.

It was narrated from Humayd bin 'Abdur-Rahman that he heard Mu'awiyah say, when he was on the pulpit: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood among us and said: 'What do you say about the Verse: 'Say: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind...''? I mentioned Jinn, and I mentioned mankind. Mu'awiyah said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood among us and said: 'What do you say about the Verse: 'Say: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn'...''? (113:1). I mentioned the day, and I mentioned people. Mu'awiyah said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood among us and said: 'What do you say about the Verse: 'Say: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind'' (114:1)? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn from the evil of what He created, and from the evil of darkness as it covers, and from the evil of the women who blow on knots, and from the evil of the envier as he envies' (113:1-5). Then he said: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the whispering, the retreating (Satan), Who whispers in the breasts of mankind, of jinn and men' (114:1-6).' Then Mu'awiyah said: 'I seek refuge in Allah from all of that.' Then he said: 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught us the supplication that we should say when we are angry.' He mentioned the supplication of Ibn Mas'ud: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minash-shaytanir-rajeem wa hamzihi wa nafkhhi wa nafsih.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Satan, from his madness, his arrogance, and his poetry).
