Anger
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1554

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. O Allah, forgive me my sin, remove the anger from my heart, and protect me from the misleading trials.

A'udhu billahi minash-Shaytanir-rajeem. Allahummaghfir li dhanbi, wa adh-hib ghayza qalbi, wa ajirni min mudhillatil-fitan.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the root of anger by seeking Allah's forgiveness and asking Him to remove it from the heart. Narrated Abdullah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "There is no one who is struck by a trial and says 'Ina lillahi wa ina ilayhi raji'un' (We belong to Allah and to Him we are returning), O Allah, reward me for my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange), but Allah will reward him for his affliction and give him something better than it in exchange." He also said: "Do not say this, rather say: 'Allahumma ajurni fi musibati, wa khlif li khairan minha' (O Allah, reward me for my affliction and grant me better than it)." The narrator said: Abdullah also narrated from the Prophet (ﷺ): "There is no servant who says: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afiya fi dunya wa al-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afwah wal-'afiya fi dini wa dunyaya, wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya, wa min khalfi, wa 'an yamini, wa 'an shimail, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bika an ughtala min tahti' (O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion and worldly affairs, in my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my private parts and secure me from the things that make me anxious. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in You from being taken from beneath me)." Abdullah said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught us this dua: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-hammi wal-hazani, wal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-jubni, wa dala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, from the burden of debt and the force of men)." Abdullah said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When one of you gets angry, he should say: 'Allahumma-ghfir li dhanbi wa adh-hib ghayza qalbi wa ajirni min mudillatil-fitan' (O Allah, forgive me my sin, remove the anger from my heart, and protect me from misleading trials)."
