In the name of Allah, and by Allah, and from Allah, and to Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah. O Allah, I have submitted myself to You, and turned my face to You, and entrusted my affair to You, and sought refuge in You, desiring You and fearing You. There is no refuge nor salvation from You except with You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed, and in Your Prophet whom You sent.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is recited before going to sleep. It encompasses a complete surrender to Allah and a plea for His protection throughout the night, covering you from any unforeseen harm or accidents that might occur while you are unconscious and vulnerable.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and full conviction in Allah’s power. It's recommended to recite it after performing Wudu (ablution) and before lying down to sleep. Visualize Allah’s protection encompassing you as you speak these words.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication is a means of seeking comprehensive protection from Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companion Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was going to bed, stating that whoever recites it before sleeping will be protected. It ensures that if you were to pass away that night, you would die in a state of pure faith (fitrah). It’s a holistic shield against all forms of harm during sleep, which is a state akin to a minor death.

Source & Authentication

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'If you go to bed at night, say: "Allahumma inni aslamtu nafsi ilaika, wa wajjahtu wajhi ilaika, wa fawwadtu amri ilaika, wa alja'tu zahri ilaika, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilaika, la malja'a wa la manja minka illa ilaika. Amantu bikitabikalladhi anzalt, wa binabiyyikalladhi arsalt." (O Allah! I have submitted myself to You, and turned my face to You, and entrusted my affair to You, and sought refuge in You, desiring You and fearing You. There is no refuge nor salvation from You except with You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed and Your Prophet whom You sent.) If you die that night, you will die in the state of 'Fitra' (natural disposition). Let these be the last words you utter.' 'Abdullah bin 'Umar added, 'Then I learned this dua and I taught it to my children and instructed them to recite it at the time of going to bed.'
