Sleep Duas
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3845

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provisions, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is for seeking clarity and solutions to problems, often recited before sleep. When you're facing a complex issue or a decision that weighs heavily on your mind, turning to Allah with this supplication before resting can be a profound way to seek divine insight. It's a practice that acknowledges our limitations and our need for Allah's wisdom to illuminate the path forward, especially when our conscious minds struggle to find answers. Consider reciting it when you've exhausted your own efforts and are seeking a higher perspective.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart. Begin by praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Raise your hands, if possible, as a sign of supplication and humility. Utter the words clearly, reflecting on their meaning. Afterward, place yourself in Allah's care for the night, trusting that He will guide you as He wills, whether through a dream, an idea upon waking, or a clear path unfolding.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua doesn't directly mention dreams for problem-solving, its emphasis on 'beneficial knowledge' ('ilman naafi'an) encompasses seeking insight from Allah in all aspects of life, including our slumber. Allah is Al-Aleem (The All-Knowing) and Al-Hakeem (The Wise), and He can guide us through our dreams as a means of understanding or inspiration. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself received guidance and revelations through dreams. Seeking beneficial knowledge through this supplication can open our hearts and minds to divine whispers, potentially leading to clarity for our challenges.

Source & Authentication

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say when he intended to sleep: 'O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne, our Lord and the Lord of everything, the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran, I seek refuge in You from the evil of every evil-doer and from the evil of every creature that You seize by its forelock. You are the First, and there is nothing before You. You are the Last, and there is nothing after You. You are the Apparent, and there is nothing above You. You are the Hidden, and there is nothing beneath You. Remove from us our debt and enrich us from our poverty.' (Sahih Muslim 2713) In another narration, it is reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say before sleeping: 'O Allah, verily I ask You for a beneficial knowledge, a good provision and a deed that is accepted.'
