Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 735

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is recommended to be recited upon waking up after a nap. It's a beautiful way to set intentions for the remainder of the day or night, seeking Allah's blessing in our actions and provisions. If you wake up during the night, even for a short period, this is an excellent time to make this supplication, asking Allah to grant you the ability to engage in deeds that are pleasing to Him.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. It's best to say it with your tongue, but the intention in your heart is paramount. Raise your hands as you do when making other duas, if possible, and face the Qiblah. Ensure you are in a state of purity if you can manage it, though it is not strictly required for this particular supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua encompasses three essential aspects for a fulfilling life in this world and the next: 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('Ilman Naafi'an):** Knowledge that leads to righteous action and brings you closer to Allah. It's knowledge that benefits both the individual and society. 2. **Good Provision (Rizqan Tayyiban):** This refers to lawful, pure, and blessed sustenance. It's not just about quantity but the quality and barakah (blessing) within it. 3. **Acceptable Deeds ('Amalan Mutaqabbalan):** The ultimate goal is that our efforts and acts of worship are accepted by Allah. This requires sincerity (ikhlas) and correctness according to the Sunnah. Making this dua upon waking from a nap is a way to re-energize your spiritual state and ask Allah to enable you to utilize the remaining hours of your day or night in a manner that is pleasing to Him and accrues lasting reward.

Source & Authentication

Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would go to bed, he would say: 'Bismika amutu wa ahya' (With Your Name I die and I live). And when he would wake up, he would say: 'Al-hamdu lillah alladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatana wa ilayhi an-nushoor' (All praise is due to Allah Who revived us after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection). And when he would go to sleep and wake up during the night, he would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and acceptable deeds).
