Dua for Seeing Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in a Dream

Sleep Duas
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6356

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala aali Muhammadin

When to Read

Recite this upon going to sleep, especially if you have a strong desire to see the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in your dream. While there isn't a specific, prescribed dua solely for this purpose, the act of sending blessings upon him ﷺ is a profound way to connect with him and can be a means of achieving this noble aspiration.

How to Read

Perform your nightly routine, including reciting the required duas for sleep. After the obligatory prayers and remembrance of Allah, sincerely make this intention. Raise your hands slightly (though not a strict condition for this type of supplication) and recite 'Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala aali Muhammadin' with focus and earnestness. Imagine yourself in his presence, feeling the love and respect you hold for him. Then, lie down on your right side facing the Qiblah, with the intention that Allah grants you the blessing of seeing the Prophet ﷺ in your dream.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeing the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in a dream is considered a great blessing. The Prophet ﷺ himself said: "Whoever sees me in a dream has indeed seen me, for Satan does not resemble me." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6997). Sending blessings upon him ﷺ is one of the most beloved acts of worship to Allah, as Allah Himself commands it in the Quran: 'Indeed, Allah confers blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessings upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.' (Al-Ahzab 33:56). By consistently sending blessings, we increase our love for him, draw closer to his Sunnah, and hope for his intercession on the Day of Judgment. This earnest supplication can open the doors to such a profound spiritual experience.

Source & Authentication

The narration most relevant here is the general command to send blessings. A specific hadith about seeing him in a dream states: "Whoever sees me in a dream has indeed seen me, for Satan does not resemble me." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6997). The method of seeking this vision is through sincere supplication and sending abundant blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, as exemplified by other narrations about the virtue of sending Salah upon him.
