Reciting this dua before sleep provides comprehensive protection. It invokes Allah's perfect words, seeking refuge from His displeasure and punishment, the wickedness of His creation, and crucially, from the evil suggestions and presence of Shayateen (devils). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a means of immense safeguarding.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When any of you goes to bed, he should say: 'Bismillah, a'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatis-shayateeni wa an yahdurun.' (In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His servants, and from the whisperings of devils and their attendance.) A man asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, this is a beautiful saying.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'How can one guard himself (against evil)?' (Sunan Abi Dawud 3892, graded Hasan by some scholars, and Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3396, graded Hasan Garib).
