In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in the might of Allah and in His power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear.

It was narrated from 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went to bed each night, he would hold his hands together and blow into them, reciting: 'Qul Huwallahu ahad', 'Qul a'udhu bi Rabbil falaq' and 'Qul a'udhu bi Rabbin nas'. Then he would wipe with them whatever he could of his body, starting with his head and face and the front of his body. He would do that three times. And it was narrated from him that when he felt ill, he would do the same and recite these surahs over himself. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) complained of a pain in his body, he would recite 'Qul a'udhu bi Rabbil falaq' and 'Qul a'udhu bi Rabbin nas' and blow into his hands and wipe his body with them. He said to me: 'O 'Aishah, when pain reaches you, ask Allah by the grade of the truthful and by the greatest treasure of the earth, and say: 'Bismillah, a'udhu bi 'izzatillahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru.' (In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in the might of Allah and in His power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear.) When this was narrated to 'Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak, he said: 'This is an excellent word. It was narrated to us from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'I asked Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) to teach me the most comprehensive supplication that I could say during the night and the day.' So Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: 'O Allah, the Knower of the unseen and the Seen, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of all and Sovereign, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Shaitan and his shirk, and from inflicting evil upon myself or casting it to any Muslim.' (Sahih Muslim 2710)
