In the name of Allah. I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His creation, and from the whisperings of devils, and from their presence.

Bismillah, a'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa min sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatis-shayatini wa an yahdurun.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited before sleeping. As darkness falls and we prepare to rest, our vulnerability can increase, making us susceptible to negative influences. Reciting this means you are actively seeking Allah's protection before drifting off, ensuring your peace and safety throughout the night.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Utter the Arabic words clearly, understanding the profound meaning behind them. You are invoking Allah's perfect words, which encompass all protection, from His wrath to the subtle provocations of Shaytan. It is best recited just before lying down to sleep.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers comprehensive protection. By invoking Allah's perfect words, you are shielding yourself from divine anger and punishment. More specifically for sleep, it guards against the evil influences of creation and the insidious whispers and presence of devils (Shayateen) who often try to disturb our peace and even our faith during sleep. It is a proactive step towards a tranquil and protected slumber, pleasing to Allah.

Source & Authentication

When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) went to bed each night, he would hold his hands together, then blow upon them, reciting over them: 'Bismillah, a'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa min sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatis-shayatini wa an yahdurun.' (In the name of Allah. I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His creation, and from the whisperings of devils, and from their presence.) Then he would wipe with them whatever he could of his body. (Reported by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, and At-Tirmidhi.)
