In Your name, my Lord, I lie down. In Your name, I rise. If You take my soul, have mercy on it. And if You release it, protect it with what You protect Your righteous servants.
Bismika Rabbi wada'tu janbi, wa bika arfa'uhu. In amsakta nafsi farhamha, wa in arsalta fashfadhha bima tahfadh bihi 'ibadakas-salihin.
When to Read
This dua is recited just before lying down to sleep. For those who sleep alone, it's a beautiful way to seek Allah's presence and protection throughout the night, turning a solitary experience into one filled with divine companionship.
How to Read
Recite this supplication with sincerity and a clear intention of seeking Allah's closeness and safeguarding. Place your right hand on your side (or where you feel most comfortable) as you say it. Visualize Allah's protection enveloping you as you drift off to sleep.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is profoundly comforting for anyone feeling alone, especially at night. By invoking Allah's name and acknowledging His dominion over life and death, we replace feelings of isolation with a deep sense of connection to our Creator. It reminds us that even when physically alone, we are never truly abandoned. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this to assure us of Allah's watchful eye and mercy, even in our sleep. It's a powerful affirmation of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and reliance upon Him, turning the act of sleeping into an act of worship and seeking refuge.
