Allahumma-ghfir li, warhamni, wahdini, wa 'afini, warzuqni

When to Read

This comprehensive supplication is recommended to be recited before going to sleep. It encompasses seeking Allah's forgiveness, mercy, guidance, well-being, and sustenance. While not exclusively for envy, cultivating such a heart through these general requests is part of a believer's preparation for rest, aiming to sleep with a pure intention and a heart free from ill feelings.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and contemplation before lying down to sleep. Imagine asking Allah for all these essential aspects of life and the hereafter. It's best recited as part of your nightly routine, perhaps after completing the Sunnah prayers and remembrance before sleep.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful distillation of a Muslim's needs. By asking for forgiveness and mercy, we seek to cleanse our past and secure Allah's kindness. Guidance ensures we stay on the right path, 'afiyah (well-being/protection) covers our physical and spiritual health, and rizq (provision) encompasses all forms of good that Allah bestows. A heart that consistently turns to Allah for these comprehensive blessings naturally purifies itself, fostering a disposition less prone to envy or malice.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us the Tashahhud and also taught us to perform prayer and said: 'When one of you sits during the prayer, he should say: O Allah, I commit wrong, and no one but You can forgive it. O Allah, forgive me. O Allah, have mercy on me. O Allah, guide me. O Allah, provide for me.' (Sahih Muslim 2697). While the context of the hadith is during prayer, the comprehensive nature of the supplication makes its essence applicable to seeking Allah's comprehensive support in all aspects of life, including preparing the heart for rest.
