O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul, and from the evil of every moving creature You are seizing by its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on a straight path. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, and the sudden change of Your protection, and the awful vengeance of Your punishment, and all Your displeasure.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri nafsi, wa min sharri kulli dabbatin anta akhidhun binasiyatiha, wa inna Rabbi 'ala siratin mustaqim. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.
When to Read
This comprehensive supplication can be recited at any time, but is particularly powerful when facing a moment of weakness, tempted by others, or after having succumbed to such pressure. It's a general plea for protection against inner evils and external negative influences that lead to sin.
How to Read
Make this dua with sincerity, understanding each phrase. Imagine seeking Allah's protection as you utter the words. It's a beautiful practice to raise your hands, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did, and to say it with a heart full of hope and reliance on Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is incredibly encompassing. It safeguards against personal failings ('evil of my soul') and external pressures ('evil of every moving creature'). By seeking refuge from the loss of blessings, change in well-being, sudden punishment, and displeasure, we are essentially asking for Allah's continuous favor and protection. This helps in building inner strength to resist doing wrong out of fear or pressure from people, as our primary fear should be of Allah.
