O Allah, forgive me my sin, all of it, the small and the great, the first and the last, the apparent and the hidden, the little and the much.
Allahummaghfirli dhanbi kullahu, diqqahu wa jillahu, awwalahu wa akhirahu, 'alaniyatahu wa sirrahu, qalilahu wa kathirahu
When to Read
This profound supplication is for moments when you find yourself succumbing to intense desires or passions. It's particularly potent when you feel the pull of temptation strongly, recognizing that you've stumbled or are on the verge of stumbling. Recite it immediately after a sin, or even when you feel the urge, as a proactive measure to seek Allah's forgiveness and strength.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt sense of humility. Feel the weight of your shortcomings and the immense mercy of Allah. It's best recited after fulfilling your obligatory prayers, or during the times when dua is more likely to be accepted, such as the last third of the night or between the adhan and iqamah. Reflect on each part of the dua – acknowledging that all sins, whether big or small, open or secret, are known to Allah and seeking His comprehensive forgiveness.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful tool for seeking complete absolution. By encompassing all types of sins – their magnitude, timing, visibility, and quantity – you are making a comprehensive plea to the All-Forgiving. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companion Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked for a dua to recite in his prayers, highlighting its importance and efficacy in seeking Allah’s forgiveness for all wrongdoings, especially when one feels overwhelmed by their own weaknesses.

Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me a supplication that I may recite in my prayer. He said: Say, 'O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins except You, so forgive me with forgiveness from You and have mercy upon me. Indeed, You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.' (Allahummaghfirli dhalmi wausi', wa la yaghfiruth-thunuba illa anta, faghfirli maghfiratan min 'indik warhamni, innaka antal Ghafurur Rahim.) And another version: 'O Allah, forgive me my sin, all of it, the small and the great, the first and the last, the apparent and the hidden.' (Allahummaghfirli dhanbi kullahu, diqqahu wa jillahu, awwalahu wa akhirahu, 'alaniyatahu wa sirrahu.)
