The Most Comprehensive Dua: The Day of Arafah

Ramadan & Fasting
Hasan HadithJami' at-Tirmidhi 3388

There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things competent.

La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer

When to Read

The Day of Arafah (9th of Dhu al-Hijjah) is renowned as the ultimate day for supplication. While this specific dua is emphasized for Arafah, its profound meaning and immense reward make it perfect for reciting throughout the blessed month of Ramadan, especially during its final, most virtuous days. You can recite it at any time, but it’s particularly potent during the moments of supplication like after prayers, during suhoor, or while breaking your fast.

How to Read

This is a concise yet powerful declaration of faith and a comprehensive supplication. Recite it with sincere conviction in your heart, acknowledging Allah's absolute oneness, His dominion over all creation, and His limitless power. Reflect on each part of the statement as you utter it. It is recommended to repeat it, as the Prophet ﷺ himself mentioned its virtue when repeated.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafah. And the best of what I and the prophets before me have said is: 'La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer.' (There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things competent.)'. [Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3388]. Imam At-Tirmidhi grades this hadith as Hasan. This statement encapsulates Tawhid (Oneness of Allah), acknowledges His absolute sovereignty and praise, and affirms His power over everything. It’s considered the apex of supplication because it is all-encompassing, covering the core tenets of our faith and expressing our complete reliance on Allah.
