اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
O Allah, You are the Pardoner, and You love to pardon, so pardon me.
Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni
When to Read
This dua is particularly recommended for the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially during the odd-numbered nights when Laylat al-Qadr is sought. It's a powerful supplication to make frequently during the pre-dawn hours (suhoor), after prayers, or anytime you feel a connection to seek Allah's forgiveness and pleasure in these blessed days.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly, as one would during general supplication. Reflect on the meaning of 'Afuww' (The Pardoner) – Allah's vastness in forgiving sins. Try to internalize the plea for pardon, focusing on seeking Allah's mercy for shortcomings and striving for His pleasure.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is directly linked to seeking Allah's pardon, a central theme in seeking closeness to Him, especially during Ramadan. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when she asked what to say if she knew which night was Laylat al-Qadr. It highlights the importance of seeking forgiveness and mercy from Allah in our quest for devotion during this sacred month. By asking for 'Afw', we are asking for our sins to be erased, which is a significant step in purifying our hearts and intensifying our worship.
