Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2694

اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي وَسَدِّدْنِي وَاذْكُرْ بِالْهُدَى هِدَايَتَكَ، وَالسَّدَادَ سَدَادَ سَهْمِي

O Allah! Guide me and set me right, and remind me by guidance of Your guidance, and by setting right the rightness of my arrow.

Allahumma ihdini wa saddidni, wadhkur bil-huda hidayatak, was-sadada sadada sahmi.

When to Read

This is a profound dua that can be recited at any time, but it's particularly powerful during the latter part of the night (Qiyam al-Layl), after the obligatory prayers, or whenever you feel a need for Allah's guidance and support in staying on the straight path. It’s a prayer for continuous direction and rightness in all our actions and decisions.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands as you would in supplication. Ensure you understand the meaning of each word to connect with Allah on a deeper level. Picture yourself receiving Allah's guidance and His help in making your affairs 'straight' and true, like a perfectly aimed arrow.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a direct supplication taught to us by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It encompasses two crucial aspects of a believer's life: guidance (hidayah) and being set right or steadfastness (tasdeed). Asking Allah to 'set me right' means asking Him to correct our actions, intentions, and choices, ensuring they align with His pleasure. The phrase 'remind me by guidance of Your guidance' emphasizes reliance on divine direction, not just our own intellect. The analogy of the 'arrow' signifies aiming for truth and righteousness in all endeavors, with Allah's help ensuring accuracy and success. It's a comprehensive request for spiritual and practical correctness.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Allah! Guide me and set me right, and remind me by guidance of Your guidance, and by setting right the rightness of my arrow.' (Sahih Muslim 2694). The Prophet ﷺ would say this when he wanted to supplicate.
