In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Say: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn, from the evil of all that He has created, and from the evil of the darkening night as it falls, and from the evil of those who practice sorcery when they blow into the knots, and from the evil of the envier when he envies.'
Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem. Qul a'udhu bi rabbil-falaq. Min sharri ma khalaq. Wa min sharri ghasiqin idha waqab. Wa min sharri-nnaffaathati fil-'uqad. Wa min sharri haasidin idha hasad.
When to Read
This is the fundamental dua for protection, as prescribed by Allah Himself. It's highly recommended to recite it daily, especially in the morning and evening, as part of our remembrance of Allah. Many scholars advise reciting it three times in the morning and three times in the evening for comprehensive protection. It's also beneficial to recite when you feel a sense of unease, suspecting the influence of the evil eye or jealousy, or before embarking on a journey or undertaking something significant.
How to Read
Recite these verses with sincerity and firm belief in Allah's power to protect. Focus on the meaning and intent of seeking refuge in the Creator from all forms of evil, particularly the specific evils mentioned: creation, the night, witchcraft, and envy. Blowing gently after reciting (as mentioned in some interpretations for specific duas, though not explicitly required here for general recitation) can be done with a light puff of air, symbolizing the expulsion of harm, but the core is the sincere recitation and intention.
Virtues & Benefits
Allah, the Almighty, has revealed these verses as a direct means of seeking His protection. The Surah Al-Falaq (The Dawn) explicitly commands us to seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn from the 'evil of all that He has created' โ a comprehensive shield. It also specifically protects against the 'evil of the envier when he envies,' directly addressing the harm that can stem from jealousy. Regular recitation is a powerful spiritual defense mechanism, strengthening our connection with Allah and fortifying our resilience against negative influences.
