QuranQuran 21:89

رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ

My Lord, do not leave me alone, though You are the best of inheritors.

Rabbi la tadharni fardan wa anta khayrul-waritheen

When to Read

This powerful supplication, uttered by Prophet Zakariya (peace be upon him) in his old age and when he was without offspring, is a profound expression of reliance on Allah and a heartfelt request for progeny. We can turn to this dua whenever we feel isolated, facing a significant personal challenge that requires Allah's direct intervention, or when praying for righteous descendants. It's particularly poignant when making supplication during the blessed times like the last third of the night, during rainfall, or between the Dhuhr and Asr prayers on a Friday, as these are times when Allah is most gracious.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention, humility, and absolute trust in Allah's plan. Visualize Prophet Zakariya (peace be upon him) making this plea. It's beautiful to say it while raising your hands in supplication, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Reflect deeply on the meaning: acknowledging Allah as the ultimate inheritor means recognizing that everything ultimately returns to Him, and He is the One who grants blessings. Consider reciting it regularly, perhaps after your obligatory prayers, making it a habit that strengthens your connection with your Creator.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua embodies deep Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). By calling upon Allah as 'the best of inheritors,' we acknowledge His sovereignty and His power to grant blessings even when all human means seem exhausted. Prophet Zakariya's plea was answered with the birth of Prophet Yahya (John), a blessed child, demonstrating that sincere supplication, coupled with faith, can indeed bring about miraculous results. Reciting this can bring comfort in times of loneliness, hope for fulfillment of deep desires, and strength in facing life's trials knowing Allah is with us and will ultimately inherit all.
