Rabbi Hab Li Hukman – A Prayer for Wisdom and Righteous Company

Quranic Duas
QuranQuran 26:83

رَبِّ هَبْ لِي حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ

My Lord, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous.

Rabbi hab li hukman wa alhiqni bis-salihin

When to Read

This powerful plea was made by the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in a time of immense challenge. We can recite it whenever we feel the need for deeper understanding, sound judgment, and the company of good people. It's particularly fitting when facing difficult decisions, seeking knowledge, or striving to improve our character and spiritual standing.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. Imagine yourself asking your Creator directly, with humility and deep reliance. Reflect on the meaning of 'hukman' – not just knowledge, but the ability to apply it wisely – and the blessing of being surrounded by those who remind you of Allah. It's beautiful to make this part of your daily supplications, perhaps after prayer or during moments of reflection.

Virtues & Benefits

By asking for wisdom ('hukman'), we seek Allah's guidance in discerning truth from falsehood, making sound judgments, and acting with prudence in all matters. The second part of the dua, 'wa alhiqni bis-salihin' (and join me with the righteous), is a profound request for companionship that benefits us in this life and the next. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'A person is upon the religion of his friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.' (Abu Dawud 4833, Hasan). Thus, this dua encompasses seeking both inner guidance and positive external influence, a complete prayer for spiritual and social well-being.
