Quranic Duas
QuranAl-Mumtahinah 60:5

Our Lord, do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Rabbana la taj'alna fitnatan lilladheena kafaroo wa-ghfir lana Rabbana innaka antal-'Azeezul-Hakeem

When to Read

This verse is a powerful supplication that can be recited anytime we feel our faith being tested, or when we witness the challenges faced by Muslims. It's particularly relevant during times of societal pressure, when faced with persecution, or when we fear our actions might inadvertently cause doubt or distress to non-believers regarding the truth of Islam. It serves as a constant reminder to seek Allah's protection and ask for forgiveness, acknowledging our own weaknesses and His ultimate power and wisdom.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere devotion and a heartfelt understanding of its meaning. Focus on the plea to Allah, acknowledging Him as our Lord ('Rabbana'). Contemplate the profound request not to be a source of 'fitnah' (trial, tribulation, or temptation) for those who reject faith, implying a desire to remain steadfast ourselves and not to give them any reason to doubt Islam through our shortcomings. The second part, asking for forgiveness ('wa-ghfir lana Rabbana'), shows humility and reliance on Allah's mercy. Conclude by affirming His attributes of 'Al-'Azeez' (The Almighty, The Mighty) and 'Al-Hakeem' (The All-Wise), recognizing that all outcomes are subject to His perfect plan.

Virtues & Benefits

The primary benefit of reciting this verse is seeking Allah's protection from becoming a cause of trial for disbelievers. This means praying that our conduct, our steadfastness, and our very existence do not become a reason for them to further reject faith or to mock it. It's a dua that safeguards our own Iman (faith) by asking Allah to keep us firm. It also embodies humility by immediately following the plea for protection with a request for forgiveness, acknowledging our need for Allah's mercy. This dua is a profound expression of reliance on Allah's might and wisdom, recognizing that only He can grant us the strength to overcome trials and the wisdom to navigate difficult situations.
