Virtues & Benefits
Allah, the Most High, states in the Quran regarding this dua: 'So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers.' (Al-Anbiya 21:88). This verse clearly indicates that this dua is a means by which Allah grants relief from distress to those who believe. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also mentioned: 'The supplication of Dhul-Nun (Yunus) when he called out to his Lord from the belly of the whale: 'La ilaha illa anta, subhanaka, inni kuntu minadh-dhalimin' (There is no god but You: glory to You: I was indeed an evildoer). So, indeed, he did not supplicate this but that Allah would answer him.' (Sahih At-Tirmidhi 3505). This hadith highlights that this supplication is one that Allah is particularly inclined to answer.

So, indeed, he did not supplicate this but that Allah would answer him. And this is how We bring the believers out of trials. (Narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud)
