My Lord, indeed I seek refuge in You, lest I ask of You that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers.

Rabbi inni a'udhu bika an as'alaka ma laysa li bihi 'ilmun wa illa taghfir li wa tarhamni akun minal-khasirin

When to Read

This profound dua from Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) is a powerful supplication to make when facing overwhelming difficulties, uncertainty, or when you feel you've made mistakes or acted out of ignorance. It's especially relevant when you're caught in a tribulation that seems beyond your control, reminding you of your dependence on Allah's mercy and forgiveness.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and humility, recognizing your limitations as a human being. Turn to Allah with a broken heart, acknowledging your need for His guidance and protection. Focus on the meaning: seeking refuge from asking for things you don't understand and admitting your potential for error, while desperately pleading for Allah's forgiveness and mercy. It's best recited in a state of supplication, whether raising your hands or not, but always with a sincere heart.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua embodies deep spiritual wisdom. By seeking refuge from asking what one doesn't know, it teaches us to guard against presumption and arrogance in our supplications. It highlights the paramount importance of Allah's forgiveness (maghfirah) and mercy (rahmah) for success in this life and the next. Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) himself uttered this in a moment of immense distress, showing that even prophets turn to Allah in times of tribulation, acknowledging their need for divine intervention. This reminds us that true deliverance comes not from our own strength, but from Allah's grace.
