"O my Lord, indeed they (idols) have led astray many of mankind. So whoever follows me – then he is of me; and whoever disobeys me – indeed, You are Forgiving and Merciful. Our Lord, and make us [submitters] to You and [perhaps] from our offspring a nation submitting to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful."
Rabbi innahunna aḍlalnya kathīran minan-nās. Faman taba'anī fa'innahu minnī, wa man 'aṣānī fa'innaka Ghafūrun Raḥīm. *Rabbanā waj'alna musilimayni laka wa min dhurriyyatinna ummatan muslimatan lak. Wa arinā manāsikanā wa tub 'alaynā. Innaka antal-Tawwābur-Raḥīm.*
When to Read
This powerful dua is particularly relevant when reflecting on the importance of pure Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and seeking protection from falling into Shirk (associating partners with Allah) in any form, whether overt or subtle. It's beneficial to recite it during times of personal reflection, when feeling weak in faith, or when observing societal deviations from pure monotheism. It is also fitting when making dua for one's descendants to remain steadfast on Islam.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and deep contemplation of its meaning. Focus on the gravity of Shirk and the immense mercy of Allah. Visualize Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) making this earnest supplication. It is best recited with a humble heart, turning towards the Qiblah if possible, with hands raised as is customary for dua.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses profound requests: seeking Allah's protection against the misguidance caused by false deities and those who lead others astray; reaffirming the connection with those who follow the truth; acknowledging Allah's forgiveness for those who disobey; and most importantly, asking Allah to make oneself and one's progeny devoted Muslims. It highlights the deep concern of a Prophet for the spiritual well-being of his family and community, and his reliance on Allah's boundless mercy and guidance.
