QuranQuran (Surah Ibrahim, 14:36)

My Lord, they have led astray many of the people. So whoever follows me – then he is of me. And whoever disobeys me – indeed, You are Forgiving and Merciful.

Rabb innahunna aḍlalna kathīran min an-nāsi faman taba'anī fa'innahu minnī wa man 'aṣānī fa'innaka ghafūrun raḥīm.

When to Read

This dua is a powerful supplication to recite when reflecting on the dangers of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and polytheism. It's particularly relevant when observing societal trends that deviate from pure Tawhid (monotheism) or when seeking personal steadfastness in faith. Recite it during times of personal reflection, after observing acts of disbelief or misguidance, or when making dua for yourself and your family to remain firm on the truth.

How to Read

This is a profound Quranic dua made by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). When reciting it, it's important to feel the weight of its meaning: acknowledging Allah's power, recognizing the deceptive nature of idolatry and misguidance, and submitting to Allah's will. Reflect on the trust Ibrahim had in Allah's mercy, even towards those who disobey. Make this dua with sincerity, understanding that Allah alone guides and forgives.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua embodies the essence of Tawhid and the prophetic struggle against shirk. By reciting it, we align ourselves with the supplications of one of Allah's greatest prophets. It serves as a constant reminder of the constant need to seek Allah's protection from straying, either ourselves or our loved ones. It highlights the core belief that guidance and mercy come solely from Allah, acknowledging His attribute of being 'Ghafoor ur-Raheem' (All-Forgiving, Most Merciful), even for those who have strayed.
