โœฆ

Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.

Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa il lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakoonanna minal-khasireen

When to Read

This powerful acknowledgment of our shortcomings is a fundamental dua for self-reflection and seeking Allah's forgiveness. It's particularly fitting when we realize we've erred, whether through a specific sin or simply by falling short of our potential in obeying Allah. Recite it during moments of introspection, after committing a mistake, or as a regular part of your supplications, especially in the quiet hours of the night or after your prayers, to reinforce your reliance on Allah's mercy.

How to Read

Recite this dua with a sincere heart, acknowledging your own role in any wrongdoing. Understand the meaning deeply: you are not just uttering words, but confessing your faults to the One who knows your innermost secrets. Raise your hands in supplication, as is the practice for many duas, and repeat it with conviction, hoping for Allah's boundless forgiveness and mercy. It's a dua that stems from humility and a recognition of our inherent weakness.

Virtues & Benefits

This verse encapsulates the essence of repentance. By acknowledging our sins ('wronged ourselves') and simultaneously turning to Allah for His covering and mercy, we are actively seeking His pleasure and protection from loss in this life and the next. Its recitation is a pathway to sincere repentance and a means of drawing closer to Allah, seeking His unending mercy which encompasses all things.
