اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision against unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I shall not need the help of anyone but You.
Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka
When to Read
This is a powerful dua to recite daily, especially during the times when you feel overwhelmed by debt or financial hardship. It's a sincere plea to Allah for sustenance that is lawful and sufficient, protecting us from falling into unlawful means or relying on people. Many find it beneficial to recite it after each obligatory prayer, or in the morning and evening.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm belief in Allah's ability to fulfill your needs. Raise your hands if you are able, as this is a sign of supplication and reliance on Allah. Focus on the meaning of the words, understanding that you are asking the Creator of all wealth to provide for you in a way that pleases Him and keeps you away from what displeases Him.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for financial well-being. By asking Allah to suffice us with lawful provision, we seek protection from the temptation of earning through haram means, which brings only temporary gain and eternal loss. Asking to be enriched by His grace removes our dependence on anyone else, fostering contentment and strengthening our tawakkul (reliance) on Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he complained about his inability to repay his debts, and it proved to be an effective means of fulfilling them.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught me the following words to say: 'Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka.' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision against unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I shall not need the help of anyone but You.) He (the Prophet ﷺ) said: 'Indeed, if you have the equivalent of a mountain of debt, Allah would help you to pay it off.'
