Dua for Protection from the Evil of the Tongue

بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

In the name of Allah, the One with Whose name nothing can cause harm, whether on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Bismillahilladhi la yaduru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Sami'ul-Alim.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited three times in the morning and three times in the evening. It's a shield against all forms of harm, including the harm that can come from spoken words, whether intentional or unintentional, directed at you or caused by you.

Recite this dua with full conviction and sincerity. Believe in the power of Allah's name to protect you. It's best recited with a calm heart, reflecting on the meaning and seeking Allah's refuge.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised great protection to the one who recites this dua consistently. He ﷺ said: 'Whoever says this three times in the morning, will be protected from all afflictions that day, and whoever says it three times in the evening, will be protected from all calamities that night.' This protection extends to physical harm, as well as harmful words and gossip that can damage reputations and relationships.

Narrated by Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no servant who says, in the morning of every day and the evening of every night: 'Bismillahilladhi la yaduru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Sami'ul-Alim' (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing), but that nothing will harm him."
