O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This powerful dua is specifically recommended for recitation when facing anxieties about one's financial situation or when feeling overwhelmed by existing debt. It's a comprehensive supplication that addresses not just the outward signs of hardship but also the inner states that can contribute to them. Make it a regular part of your supplications, especially after your obligatory prayers, and at any time you feel financial worries creeping in.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands as you would during supplication. Believe in Allah's ability to relieve you of your burdens and protect you from future hardship. Focus on the meaning of each phrase as you utter it. It's often beneficial to repeat it three times, as is the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in many instances of seeking refuge.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers comprehensive protection against various forms of hardship. By seeking refuge in Allah from distress and sorrow, we address the emotional toll of financial struggles. Asking for protection from incapacity and laziness helps us remain proactive in seeking lawful sustenance. Shielding ourselves from cowardice and stinginess fosters strength and generosity, which can be keys to overcoming financial difficulties. Most importantly, it directly seeks Allah's aid in overcoming the burden of debt ('ghalabatid-dayn') and the humiliation or pressure that can come from others ('qahrir-rijal'), ensuring both material and dignified relief.
