Guide us to the straight path

Ihdina as-siratal-mustaqim

When to Read

This is the most fundamental dua, recited at least 17 times daily in the obligatory prayers (Salah). It's a constant reminder of our need for Allah's guidance in every aspect of our lives, from the grand decisions to the smallest steps. We should also make it a habit to recite it regularly outside of prayer, asking Allah to keep us firm on His path.

How to Read

Recite this ayah with sincerity and a deep sense of humility, acknowledging that true guidance comes only from Allah. Understand its profound meaning and visualize yourself walking on the straight path that leads to His pleasure and Paradise. Approach it with a heart that is open and receptive to Allah's direction. It is a key part of Surah Al-Fatihah, recited in every rak'ah of prayer.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is the very essence of our supplication. By asking for guidance to the straight path, we are asking Allah to illuminate our way, protect us from straying, and lead us to what is right and pleasing to Him. The straight path, as explained by scholars, encompasses obeying Allah's commands, avoiding His prohibitions, and following the example of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is the path of truth, justice, and righteousness. The continuous repetition in prayer emphasizes that this guidance is not a one-time request, but a perpetual need. It is the key to success in this life and the hereafter.
