O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religious and worldly affairs, my family and my property. O Allah, conceal my weaknesses and protect me from distress. O Allah, guard me from behind and from before me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being struck from beneath me.
Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is perfect for reciting daily, especially in the mornings and evenings, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It’s particularly poignant when you feel your parents are struggling with difficulties that might lead to feelings of depression, or when you simply wish to invoke Allah's protection and strength for them during challenging times. You can also say it whenever you make dua for them, focusing your heart on their well-being.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt connection to Allah. It is best to raise your hands slightly as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to do when making du'a. Utter the words clearly and with conviction, believing that Allah has the power to grant your request. You can repeat sections of it, especially the part asking for 'afiyah (well-being and protection), as it is a very encompassing request. Making dua for others, especially parents, is a highly rewarded act.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a profound request for comprehensive well-being ('afiyah), which includes protection from all forms of harm, both spiritual and physical, in this life and the next. Asking for 'afiyah is asking for a state where one is free from disease, hardship, and suffering. For parents facing depression, this dua seeks Allah's immense mercy to shield them from despair, grant them peace of mind, protect their faith and their worldly lives, and secure them against unseen dangers. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized the importance of 'afiyah, stating that it is a blessing greater than many other things we might ask for.

Narrated Abdullah bin 'Umar: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi'azamatika an ughtala min tahti (O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, guard me from behind and from before me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being struck from beneath me).' And Abdullah bin 'Umar used to supplicate with these words and he did not abandon them. Muslim narrated it in Al-Birr wa Al-Silah, chapter of the excellence of supplication for the righteous (2605).
