رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
"My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [also] my offspring. Our Lord, and accept [my] supplication."
*Rabbij'alni muqim as-salati wa min dhurriyyati rabbana wa taqabbal du'a'*
When to Read
This ayah is a powerful example from the dua of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). We can recite it regularly, especially after our prayers, making sincere supplication for our parents. It's particularly fitting when we see our parents embarking on a new venture, facing challenges, or simply when we wish for their continued success and closeness to Allah in all aspects of their lives.
How to Read
Recite this ayah with sincerity and conviction, visualizing Allah's blessing and guidance encompassing your parents. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly as you make this dua, mirroring the supplication style taught to us. Focus on the meaning and the plea for Allah's acceptance. It's also beautiful to incorporate the general principles of dua: starting with praise of Allah, sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, and ending with praise and sending blessings again.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking success and guidance for our parents through dua is a profound act of obedience and love. It honors the immense sacrifices they made for us. Allah tells us in the Quran: "And your Lord has decreed that you not associate with any god other than Him. And to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] in your care, say not to them [so much as] 'uff' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, 'My Lord, have mercy on them even as they cared for me when I was small.'" (Al-Isra 17:23-24). By supplicating for their tawfiq, we are actively fulfilling this command and seeking Allah's mercy for them, which in turn brings blessings to ourselves. This dua, though general, encompasses seeking Allah's favor in all their endeavors, big or small.
