اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَ الِدَيَّ وَارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا

O Allah, forgive me and my parents, and have mercy on them as they brought me up when I was young.

Allahummaghfir li wa liwalidayya warhamhuma kama rabbayani saghira

When to Read

This is a powerful dua that can be recited at any time, but it's especially poignant to remember your parents with this supplication during times of personal reflection, after obligatory prayers, or during the blessed nights of Ramadan. Making dua for them is a continuous act of kindness and a fulfillment of their rights over us.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt intention for your parents. Focus on the meaning of the words and visualize Allah's mercy encompassing them. It is best to make this dua while in a state of purity and facing the Qiblah if possible, though sincerity is the most crucial element. You can also raise your hands as you make the dua, following the Sunnah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the immense rights parents have over their children. By asking for forgiveness and mercy for them, we are not only fulfilling a religious obligation but also showing gratitude for their sacrifices. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when a person dies, their deeds are cut off except for three things: a continuous charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them. This dua is a direct expression of that righteous child's prayer. Making dua for parents is one of the most significant ways to honor them even after they have passed, and it brings immense reward.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "When a person dies, their deeds are cut off except for three things: a continuous charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for them." (Sunan Abi Dawud 5152, Sunan Ibn Majah 3105). While this specific wording is a general supplication for parents, the underlying principle of making dua for them is strongly established.
