When to Read
This dua can be recited at any time, but it's particularly poignant during times of personal reflection, after salah, or when you feel a strong desire to supplicate for your parents' well-being. How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing on your intention to protect your parents. Imagine Allah's vast mercy encompassing them. It's recommended to raise your hands slightly when making dua, facing the Qiblah if possible, and to begin by praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ. Make this a regular part of your supplications, not just a one-off prayer.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking Allah's protection for our parents is a profound act of kindness (birr) and gratitude for all they have done for us. The Quran emphasizes the importance of kindness to parents: "And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], 'uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, 'My Lord, have mercy on them even as they brought me up [when I was] small.'" (Al-Isra 17:23-24). By seeking protection for their 'nafs' (self), we acknowledge that they, like all humans, can be susceptible to desires, weaknesses, and temptations. This dua is a way to ask Allah to guide them, strengthen their resolve, and shield them from any internal battles that could lead them astray or cause them distress.
