My Lord, establish prayer for me, and [also] my offspring. Our Lord, accept my supplication. Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the حساب (reckoning) is established.
Rabbij'alni muqeemas-salaati wa min dhurriyyati; Rabbana wa taqabbal du'aa. Rabbanaghfir li waliwaalidayya walil mu'mineena yawma yaqoomul hisaab.
When to Read
This powerful dua from the Quran, taught by Allah Himself, can be recited at any time. It's particularly poignant to make it after yourobligatory prayers (salat) or during the late hours of the night when supplications are readily accepted. Making it a regular part of your routine, especially when thinking of your parents' well-being, ensures you are actively seeking Allah's protection for them.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, visualizing Allah's protection encompassing your parents. Raise your hands in supplication as you would during prayer, and maintain a state of purity (wudu) if possible. Focus on each word, understanding its profound meaning – not just protection from disbelief, but also from straying into innovations and misguidance, which can subtly lead away from the true path.
Virtues & Benefits
This verse encapsulates a comprehensive supplication for oneself, one's descendants, and one's parents. By asking for the establishment of prayer, you are seeking Allah's guidance for them to remain steadfast in the most fundamental act of worship. The plea for forgiveness is a universal request for mercy for yourself, your parents, and all believers. Crucially, asking Allah to make your parents 'establish prayer' implies seeking their protection from falling into major sins, including shirk (associating partners with Allah) and bid'ah (religious innovations), as adherence to prayer is a shield and a sign of true faith and adherence to the Sunnah.
