اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is excellent to recite regularly, especially during times of need or when thinking of your parents. It's a general supplication for well-being that encompasses protection from hardship, including poverty. You can make it part of your daily routine after prayers, or whenever you feel inclined to supplicate for your parents and yourself.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction. Raise your hands if possible, as this is a Sunnah practice when making dua. Face the Qiblah and begin with praises of Allah and sending salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Focus on the meaning of the words and envision Allah's mercy. After the dua, you may wipe your hands over your face, as taught by the Prophet ﷺ in some narrations.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a comprehensive request for spiritual, material, and spiritual acceptance. By asking for 'beneficial knowledge,' we seek wisdom and understanding that guides us. 'Goodly provision' covers sustenance in all its forms, protecting us and our loved ones, including our parents, from need and poverty. 'Acceptable deeds' ensures our efforts in pleasing Allah are recognized and rewarded. This holistic approach to dua aids in safeguarding against difficulties. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'The dua of a person for his brother in his absence is readily answered. An angel is appointed to his side, and whenever he prays for his brother, the angel says: Ameen, and may the like be for you.' (Sahih Muslim 2732). This implies that supplicating for others, especially parents, carries great weight.
