O Allah, forgive me, my parents, and all believing men and women, and all Muslim men and women, the living among them and the deceased.

Allahummaghfir li wa liwalidayya wa lilmu'minina walmu'minati walmuslimina walmuslimatil ahya'i minhum wal amwat.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is perfect to recite after every obligatory prayer, or at any time you remember your parents. It’s especially poignant when you notice your parents navigating significant life changes, like retirement, health shifts, or changes in family dynamics. Reciting it during times of difficulty for them, or simply as a consistent practice to honor them, brings immense blessings.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincerity and heartfelt emotion. Picture your parents in your mind as you supplicate. Focus on the meaning of forgiveness and mercy for them. Raising your hands slightly (as is customary in supplication) can also enhance the focus of your prayer. Begin by seeking forgiveness for yourself, then extend it to your parents and the wider Ummah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the profound duty of children to honor their parents, even after their passing. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that a person's deeds are cut off after death, except for three: a continuous charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who supplicates for them. This dua is precisely that act of a righteous child. It not only seeks forgiveness for our parents but also acknowledges their vital role and our ongoing connection to them.
