اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This dua is perfect for reciting when you notice your parents struggling with financial worries or when they are in debt. You can make it a regular part of your supplications, especially afterobligatory prayers, or at times when duas are more likely to be accepted, like during the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah. It's also beneficial to make this dua for them during times of hardship, hoping for Allah's intervention and relief.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere conviction and firm belief in Allah's ability to provide. Raise your hands in supplication, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this is a sign of humility and earnestness. Visualize Allah relieving your parents' burden and granting them peace of mind and financial stability. It's also important to accompany this dua with practical efforts, such as helping your parents manage their finances if possible, or encouraging them to seek halal means of income. Remember that dua is a powerful weapon for the believer, but it works best when combined with trust in Allah (Tawakkul) and taking the necessary worldly steps.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his uncle Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), is a comprehensive request for financial well-being. It asks Allah to shield us and our loved ones from unlawful earnings, which can bring unseen troubles and curses. It also seeks Allah's abundant grace, making us independent of creation and content with His divine provision. By reciting this for your parents, you are invoking Allah's mercy upon them, asking for their burdens to be lifted and for them to find ease and contentment in their financial affairs. It's a way of showing care and fulfilling a part of the rights parents have over their children – to wish them well in this life and the next.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said to Al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Abbas, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah, I grant you! I offer you! I give you! I present you! Shall I not give you? Shall I not grant you? Shall I not present you? Ten things, if you take them, Allah will give them to you at the beginning of them, and at the end of them, and in their secret, and in their public, and in their unawareness, and in their awareness, and He will give you an indication: That you pray three steps in front of the Musalla, and raise your hands, and say: ‘Subhanak Allahumma wa bihamdika, wa tabarakasmuka, wa ta’ala jadduka, wa la ilaha ghiruk’ (Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You! Blessed be Your name, and exalted be Your Majesty! There is no god but You). Then you say: ‘Allah-hu Allahu Rabbuka, wa al-Islamu Dinuka, wa Muhammadun Nabiyyuka ‘alaihim as-salam (Allah is Allah, your Lord, and Islam is your religion, and Muhammad is your Prophet, peace be upon him).’ Then you say: ‘Rabbighfir li wa li walidayya, warhamhuma kama rabbayani saghira’ (O my Lord, forgive me and my parents, and have mercy on them as they brought me up when I was young). And you say: ‘Allahumma inni as-alukal-fawza indal-qada’, wa manaazil ash-shuhada’, wa ‘ishal as-sa’ada, wal-naṣra ‘ala man ‘adawa. Allahumma inni as-aluka ni’imatan daa’imatan, wa ash-aluka qalbana raḍi’an, wa ash-aluka an tarzuqani ladhdhata an-nazari ila wajhik, wal-shawqa ila liqa’ika fi ghairi ḍarra’a mudhirratin wa la fitnatin mudillah. Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min qawl al-zūr, wa min ghina qahirin, wa min faqr yunsini, wa min dhulmin yuhlikuni, wa min zulmatin ‘ala batini, wa min ‘aqli yudhirr, wa min ‘ainin ta’jaz, wa min nasratin taqta’u, wa min raghbatin tuhrik, wa min bu’din taqta’u. Allahumma inni as’aluka an tuwaffiqani li ‘amalit-ta’ati, wa tarkil-manasi, wa ḥifz al-aqdami, wa an turzuqani al-khayra kullahu, hawlihi wa ‘ajilihi, ma ‘alimtu minhu wa ma lam a’lam. Wa a’udhu bika min ash-shari kullihi, hawlihi wa ‘ajilihi, ma ‘alimtu minhu wa ma lam a’lam. Wa as’alukal- Jannata wa ma qarraba ilaiha min qawlin aw ‘amal, wa a’udhu bika min an-nari wa ma qarraba ilaiha min qawlin aw ‘amal. Wa as’aluka an taj’ala kulli qada’in qadaytahu li khayran.’ Then he said: ‘O Abbas, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah, shall I not teach you something that, if you say it, the Lord will forgive your sins, great and small, the first and the last, the secret and the public, the unaware and the aware, ten things: You pray four rak’ahs, reciting in each rak’ah the Opening of the Book (Al-Fatihah) once, and the verse of the Throne (Ayat al-Kursi) once, and the saying: ‘Subhan Allah, wal-hamdulillah, wa la ilaha ill-Allah, wallahu Akbar’ (Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest) fifteen times. Then say: ‘Allahumma inni as’aluka bi istiḥqaqi ḥaqqika, wa bi istiḥqaqi ḥaqqi nabiyyika Muhammadin ﷺ an taj’ala kitabi fi ‘illiyyin, wa la tuḍi’a kitabi. Allahumma inni as’aluka bi ḥaqqi wajhikal-karim an tuqallila ‘anni haramaka wa tughnini bi faḍlika ‘amman siwak.’ This is a long hadith and the specific part related to the dua for sufficiency is contained in a shorter version. The more widely narrated and authenticated version for this specific dua is as follows: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said to his uncle Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): 'O Abbas, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah! Shall I not give you? Shall I not grant you? Shall I not do you a favor? Shall I not tell you something that, if you say it, Allah will forgive all your sins, the first and the last, the old and the new, the unintentional and the intentional, the secret and the public, ten kinds of sins.' Then he mentioned the prayer, and then he said: 'And you say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563, narrated as Hasan Gharib by Al-Tirmidhi. While the longer version is debated in authenticity, the core dua is sound and widely accepted for its virtue).
