Parents
QuranQuran 14:40-41

My Lord, establish prayer for me and my descendants. Our Lord, accept my prayer. Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.

Rabbij'alni muqeemas-salati wa min dhurriyyati, rabbana wa taqabbal du'aa. Rabbanaghfirli waliwalidayya walilmu'mineena yawma yaqoomul hisaab.

When to Read

This is a general supplication that can be made anytime, but it is particularly relevant when we witness our parents facing significant life changes, whether it's retirement, health challenges, relocation, or any other transition. Making this dua during times of personal reflection or after salah (obligatory prayers) is also a good practice.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, envisioning your parents' well-being and their ability to navigate changes with peace and acceptance. Raise your hands in supplication as you do so, a practice that often accompanies heartfelt du'a. It's important to understand the meaning of the words and to truly feel the plea for Allah's mercy and guidance for them and for yourself. Making du'a for others, especially parents, is a beautiful act of worship that carries immense reward.

Virtues & Benefits

This verse beautifully encapsulates a comprehensive prayer for one's family and oneself. By asking Allah to make us 'establishers of prayer' and including our descendants, we seek the continuation of righteous deeds through generations. The request for acceptance of du'a shows humility and reliance on Allah's grace. Most importantly, asking for forgiveness for oneself, parents, and all believers on the Day of Judgment highlights the profound importance of family ties and the collective hope for Paradise. This dua not only benefits your parents by seeking Allah's ease for them but also strengthens your connection with them and your own spiritual standing.
