When to Read
This dua can be recited at any time, but it is particularly poignant to make it during your daily prayers (Salat), especially in sujood (prostration) or after the Tashahhud, before the final Tasleem. It's a comprehensive prayer that covers oneself, one's children, and one's parents, making it suitable for times when you are reflecting on the well-being and steadfastness of your family, especially in navigating the complexities of modern life.
How to Read
Recite with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning. Raise your hands if reciting outside of obligatory prayer, as this is a Sunnah for supplication. Reflect on the interconnectedness of your family's faith and well-being. Understanding the gravity of asking for forgiveness and establishment of prayer for yourself and your parents can deepen the impact of this dua.
Virtues & Benefits
This beautiful dua from Surah Ibrahim is incredibly comprehensive. By asking Allah to make you an establisher of prayer, you are asking for the strength to uphold this pillar of Islam, which in turn sets a positive example for your family. Asking for your offspring to be the same is a plea for the continuation of righteous deeds. Most importantly for this context, you are asking for forgiveness for yourself and your parents, and for their acceptance on the Day of Judgment. This encompassing dua can be seen as a means to seek Allah's grace upon your parents, asking Him to guide them, strengthen them, and help them remain firm and adaptable in their faith as times change.
