QuranQuran (Surah Al-Isra, Ayah 24)

رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا

My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.

Rabbir hamhuma kama rabbayani sagheera

When to Read

This is the most direct and beautiful supplication from the Quran for our parents. You can recite it at any time, but it’s especially poignant after salah, during sujud (prostration), or whenever you remember them and feel a yearning to pray for their well-being. Making it a part of your daily routine ensures you’re consistently honoring their immense sacrifices.

How to Read

Recite this ayah with sincerity and a full heart, visualizing your parents and feeling the gratitude you owe them. Imagine Allah's mercy enveloping them. It’s best recited when you are in a state of purity (wudu), facing the Qiblah, and with a humble demeanor. Remember that consistency is key; a continuous, heartfelt dua is more powerful than a one-off recitation.

Virtues & Benefits

Allah (SWT) has explicitly commanded us to ask for this mercy for our parents. This ayah teaches us that our parents’ efforts in raising us, especially during our vulnerable childhood, deserve our perpetual remembrance and supplication. By reciting this, we are fulfilling a fundamental right of our parents and seeking Allah’s pleasure, which in turn can bring peace and happiness to their lives and ours. It’s a direct command from Allah (SWT) and carries immense spiritual weight.
