Virtues & Benefits
This dua, taught by the Prophet ﷺ, carries immense blessings for anyone enduring a calamity. As narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no Muslim who is afflicted with a calamity and says what Allah has commanded him: 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma ajirni fi musibati wa akhlif li khayran minha,' except that Allah will compensate him with something better.' (Sahih Muslim 918) Umm Salamah herself, after the passing of her beloved husband, Abu Salamah, recited this dua. Though she wondered who could be better than him, Allah compensated her by granting her marriage to the noble Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself. This hadith stands as a profound testament to Allah's promise: He truly answers those who turn to Him in their darkest hours, transforming their sorrow into reward, granting inner peace, and opening pathways to unexpected, greater blessings, facilitating a profound journey of emotional healing and hopeful reintegration into a new chapter of life.

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "There is no Muslim who is afflicted with a calamity and says what Allah has commanded him: `Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma ajirni fi musibati wa akhlif li khayran minha` (Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me for my calamity and compensate me with something better than it), except that Allah will compensate him with something better." She said: "When Abu Salamah died, I said: Who is better than Abu Salamah, the first Muslim household to emigrate to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Then I said it, and Allah compensated me with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." — Sahih Muslim 918
