Seeking Allah's Help for Pure Intentions After Using the Bathroom

Leaving Bathroom
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recommended to be recited immediately after exiting the bathroom. It's a powerful way to purify your intentions and ask Allah to bless the things you will do after this cleansing ritual.

How to Read

Recite this dua softly and with sincere concentration after you have finished using the bathroom and are ready to re-enter the main living space. Focus on the meaning of seeking knowledge that benefits, sustenance that is pure, and actions that are accepted by Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses profound requests. 'Beneficial knowledge' leads us to the truth and guides our actions. 'Pure provision' ensures our sustenance is lawful and brings blessings. 'Accepted deeds' are those performed sincerely for Allah's sake, which are the ultimate goal of a believer. By reciting this, we aim to ensure that our intentions remain pure, and our subsequent actions are pleasing to Allah, transforming an ordinary bodily function into an opportunity for spiritual growth.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say, after he finished his prayer, these words: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.) This specific wording is generally associated with the dua after salutations, but the principle of seeking these three things is universally applicable to purifying one's state and intentions throughout the day. The inclusion here relates to the general concept of seeking purity and acceptance in all our affairs, especially after a ritual of cleansing.
