Gratitude for Allah's Blessings After Leaving the Bathroom

Leaving Bathroom
Hasan HadithSunan al-Tirmidhi 1879

Praise be to Allah Who made me taste food and satisfied me and quenched my thirst. Praise be to Allah Who kept my body sound, returned my soul to me, and permitted me to remember Him.

Alhamdulillah alladhi adhaqani ta'amahu wa-ashba'ani wa-arwani, alhamdulillah alladhi 'aafani fi jasadi wa radda 'alayya ruhi wa adhina li-dhikrih.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates profound gratitude. It acknowledges Allah's provision of sustenance (food and drink), the soundness of our physical health, the gift of life (the soul returning), and the ability to remember Him. Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'If any one of you ate food, let him say: Alhamdulillah alladhi at'amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah. And if any one of you was clothed with a garment, let him say: Alhamdulillah alladhi kasoni hadha wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah. And if any one of you woke up in the morning with anything (i.e. health) in himself, let him say: Alhamdulillah alladhi 'aafani fi jasadi wa radda 'alayya ruhi wa azina li bi dhikrih. For indeed, these words are a provision for you.' (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3430, also mentioned as part of a longer narration in Sunan Abi Dawud 5009). This specific wording used for leaving the bathroom is found in Sunan al-Tirmidhi 1879, where it is stated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught this dua after performing ablution, implying its connection to purifying oneself. The essence of gratitude for bodily functions and Allah's blessings is consistent across these narrations.
