Dua for Sustenance After the Bathroom: Gughranaka Rabbana

Leaving Bathroom
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 30

غُفْرَانَكَ، رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ المَصِيرُ

We seek Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.

Ghufranak, Rabbana wa ilaykal-maseer

When to Read

This beautiful supplication is recited immediately after exiting the toilet (bathroom/restroom). It's a moment of transition, moving from a place of purification to re-entering the wider world, and a perfect time to acknowledge Allah's grace.

How to Read

Recite this dua once, audibly or silently, as you step out of the bathroom. The emphasis is on seeking forgiveness, acknowledging our reliance on Allah for everything, and remembering our ultimate return to Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua connects two significant aspects of our faith. Firstly, by asking for forgiveness, we acknowledge that even seeking to purify ourselves is an act that needs Allah's mercy. Secondly, 'wa ilaykal-maseer' reminds us that our ultimate journey is back to Allah. This act, though seemingly small, helps us maintain mindfulness of Allah throughout our day and seek His blessings in every action, including the mundane. It's a Sunnah that transforms an ordinary act into an opportunity for remembrance and spiritual connection, potentially opening doors for blessings in our sustenance (rizq) as we continue our day under Allah's watchful care.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say when he came out of the toilet: Ghufranak, Rabbana wa ilaykal-maseer. (Meaning: We seek Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.)
