Leaving Bathroom
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 301

غُفْرَانَكَ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَذْهَبَ عَنِّي الأَذَى وَعَافَانِي

I seek Your forgiveness. All praise is due to Allah, who removed from me that which was harmful and granted me well-being.

Ghufranak, alhamdulillah alladhi adh-haba 'anni al-adha wa 'afani

When to Read

Recited immediately upon exiting the bathroom. This is a moment of transition, leaving behind the physical impurities and re-entering the general space of life.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and reflection. The first part, 'Ghufranak' (I seek Your forgiveness), acknowledges our human need for Allah's pardon, even after performing a natural bodily function. The second part, 'alhamdulillah alladhi adh-haba 'anni al-adha wa 'afani' (All praise is due to Allah, who removed from me that which was harmful and granted me well-being), expresses gratitude for the physical relief and health Allah has provided. It's a beautiful way to connect a mundane act with spiritual awareness.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua serves as a beautiful reminder of Allah's blessings even in the simplest of acts. By seeking forgiveness, we acknowledge our reliance on Him. By offering praise for the removal of harm and the granting of well-being, we cultivate gratitude for our health and the natural processes He has put in place. It's a way to turn a common routine into an act of remembrance (dhikr) and spiritual renewal, cleansing our hearts as we cleanse our bodies.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say when he came out of the toilet: Ghufranak, alhamdulillah alladhi adh-haba 'anni al-adha wa 'afani.
