أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from [the male and female devils] / [evil things and evil people].
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith
When to Read
This dua is recited *before* entering the toilet (or bathroom). It's a moment of transition, moving from the purity of the outside world into a place that, by its nature, can be associated with impurities and the dwelling of certain harmful entities. Making this dua acknowledges Allah's protection as we enter such a space.
How to Read
Recite this supplication sincerely with your heart before stepping into the toilet area. It's a Sunnah practice, and by following it, we are acting upon the guidance of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The utterance should be audible enough for yourself to hear, or can be said silently if in a shared space where privacy is a concern, though saying it aloud is generally preferred for Sunnah actions.
Virtues & Benefits
Entering the toilet is a situation where one might be exposed to unseen evils or impurities. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua to seek Allah's protection from the malevolent spiritual beings (khubuth) and wicked things or people (khaba'ith) that may inhabit such places. It's a powerful reminder that even in the most mundane or potentially unclean environments, Allah's protection is available to us through sincere supplication. This practice purifies our intention and shields us, by Allah's grace, from harm.
