Leaving Bathroom
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 385

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَذْهَبَ عَنِّي الْأَذَى وَعَافَانِي

Praise be to Allah, Who removed from me the harm and granted me well-being.

Alhamdulillahilladhi adh-haba 'annil-adha wa 'afani

When to Read

This beautiful dua is specifically for reciting immediately after exiting the restroom (toilet/bathroom). It's a moment of transition, moving from a place of cleansing to re-engaging with the world. Think of it as a small expression of gratitude for the body's functions and for the relief and health Allah has granted.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity right after you have finished using the restroom and are about to leave the facility. It's a personal moment of reflection and praise directed towards Allah. The key is the intention and the acknowledgement of Allah's blessing.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is more than just words; it's a profound acknowledgment of Allah's care. By praising Allah for removing 'harm' (which encompasses the waste products of digestion and any discomfort associated with them) and granting 'well-being' (physical health and comfort), we cultivate a mindset of gratitude. It reminds us that even our body's natural processes are blessings from Allah, and seeking relief is a sign of His continued favour. This practice instills a habit of thanking Allah for even the seemingly small things, which in turn can open the doors to greater blessings and a deeper connection with our Creator.

Narrated Sa'd: He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘The slaves of Allah are not harmed by anything after having said, when they come out of the toilet: 'Alhamdulillah alladhi adhab 'anni al-adha wa 'afani' (Praise be to Allah, Who removed from me the harm and granted me well-being).’
