Leaving Bathroom
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 31

غُفْرَانَكَ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَذْهَبَ عَنِّي الْأَذَى وَعَافَانِي

I seek Your forgiveness. All praise is for Allah who removed harm from me and gave me well-being.

Ghufraanak, alhamdu lillaahil ladhee adh-haba 'anni al-adha wa 'aafaani

When to Read

This dua is specifically recited immediately after exiting the bathroom. The bathroom is a place where one is relieved of physical impurities, but it can also be a place associated with Shaytan. Reciting this dua acknowledges Allah's mercy in removing physical discomfort and seeks His protection as you re-enter the realm where negative influences might be present.

How to Read

Recite this dua upon stepping out of the bathroom. It's a personal supplication, so you can say it quietly to yourself. The act signifies gratitude for relief and a renewed request for Allah's continued protection and well-being.

Virtues & Benefits

This simple yet profound dua serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it's an expression of gratitude to Allah for relieving you of physical discomfort ('removing harm from me'). Secondly, it acknowledges His blessing of well-being ('and gave me well-being'). Thirdly, by seeking forgiveness ('Ghufraanak'), it signifies humility and recognition of our shortcomings, asking Allah to overlook any impropriety or residual negativity that might have been encountered or absorbed in such a place. It's a way of re-sanctifying your space and yourself after a necessary but potentially spiritually vulnerable moment.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Aishah that when the Prophet (ﷺ) exited the toilet, he would say: 'Ghufraanak, alhamdu lillaahil ladhee adh-haba 'anni al-adha wa 'aafaani.' (I seek Your forgiveness. All praise is for Allah who removed harm from me and gave me well-being.)
