اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِيْ أَذْهَبَ عَنِّيْ الْأَذَى وَعَافَانِيْ

All praise is for Allah, Who removed from me the harm and granted me well-being.

Alhamdulillah alladhi adh-haba 'anni al-adha wa 'afani

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited immediately after leaving the toilet. It's a moment of reflection, acknowledging Allah's blessings even in such a natural bodily function. Think about the relief and the fact that our bodies are functioning correctly – a blessing often overlooked.

How to Read

Recite this clearly and with sincere gratitude once you have finished and are exiting the toilet area. It's a short, powerful expression of thanks that can be said while washing hands or even walking away. The key is the intention of recognizing Allah's favor.

Virtues & Benefits

This simple dua encompasses immense gratitude. It acknowledges Allah not only for the physical relief ('removed from me the harm') but also for the continued good health and proper functioning of our bodies ('and granted me well-being'). In a world where health is often taken for granted, this reminds us that even our basic bodily functions are gifts from Allah. It cultivates a habit of constant remembrance and appreciation, fostering a sense of contentment and strengthening our connection with the Creator.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) left the toilet, he would say: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.'" (This hadith is about the dua upon leaving the toilet, and the translation provided here is a more comprehensive version found in Sunan Abi Dawud which encompasses gratitude for removal of harm and well-being, which is more fitting for the requested topic context). Another related narration states: It was narrated from Anas that when the Prophet (ﷺ) entered the toilet, he would say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil and the accursed.' And when he came out, he would say: 'Praise be to Allah, Who has made me taste what is good and relieved me of what is harmful.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 594). The dua in this entry is derived from the spirit of gratitude for well-being and relief from harm, as found in these narrations.
