Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua is a beautiful way to fulfill the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when attending a wedding. By asking Allah to bless the couple, we are actively participating in their happiness and contributing to the spirit of community and mutual support that Islam encourages. It also serves as a reminder of the sanctity of marriage and our role in upholding its values. The Prophet's ﷺ own example sets the tone for how we should engage with such joyous occasions, fostering love and seeking divine favor for our brothers and sisters.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) came to his wives and said: 'A young man among you wishes to marry a young woman.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah! What are you advising us?' He said: 'O young man! You should fast, for it is a means of controlling your passions.' He said: 'I cannot afford that.' He said: 'Then you should marry, for it helps to lower the gaze and guard chastity.' He said: 'I cannot afford that either.' He said: 'Then fast, for it will be a protection for you.' When a person got married, the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say: 'Barakallahu laka wa baraka 'alayka wa jama'a baynakuma fi khair.' (May Allah bless you, and shower His blessings upon you, and unite you both in goodness.)
